Random bits and pieces about the week!

    Hi Everyone!

Wow, it's been a busy week this week. I did manage however to update a few things on the site.

Since I don't use Wordpress (I use Joomla) there are a few widgets that come with Wordpress that I really like. I have been wanting to get a Categories section for a while now. I finally did it this week! Joomla has 1000's of extensions to build any kind of site. I often visit the Extensions Directory and look for new and cool things to add to my site. I finally found an extension that allows me to make the categories section. You can see it at the bottom of my page. I called it 'Topics I like to Write About'. I don't know if I should move it to the sidebar though? I'll have to consider that!

It took me a little while to set up because all of my entries were only in one category. So I had to go through and categorize them all, but now it is working fine and I love it!

I want to bring the Work @ Home Club back, but I'm probably going to rename it to something that fits a broader audience. I'll get that up in the next couple of days.

As some of you may know if you have been reading other people's blogs is that Alexa recently changed their ranking system. It didn't really affect me at all, if anything it brought me down lower. Becslife.Biz is currently standing at 166,753 which is excellent. However since I run two versions of this site, both becslife.biz and becslife.com, the latter is only at 975,488. I have been struggling with which domain to promote! When I started I only promoted becslife.biz because I thought it sounded unique. Now I'm not so sure, the .com is very well known. Which do you think I should stick with?

I have to choose one really because otherwise it gets too confusing. I use dnscoop.com to check my pagerank and becslife.biz is a PR3 while becslife.com is a PR4.

On another note, I'm about to break the 150 subscribers mark for my RSS feed which will be nice! I've been sitting on 148 for a few days now. For some reason my feed doesn't have the images I post in it and I'm wondering why. Another thing I will have to investigate.

Also, nobody has bought my money magnet, I guess it's just too much of a pyramid scheme for most people. I still think it's pretty cool though. I'm just glad I didn't by the $100 one! I'm still hoping I'll sell some! According to the widget, heaps of people are selling them! It works with AlertPay which is similar to paypal but has a referral program where you can earn some extra cash. It's a program where you can send or receive money from anyone with an email address.

This week I also changed my commenting system, I think it looks better and is a bit more flexible than my old one. I like that fact that it shows hits and also leaves a commenter's URL. It also has Trackback so I'll be watching to see if that takes off.

Also, why not get in my 'Top Spots'? I've moved it to a prominent place on the site that everyone sees! It's a very good deal, cheap advertising. I've bought a few on other sites that I enjoy. If the site looks good, then I'll usually by a topspot. My stats show that I get quite a few hits from them. Even if someone doesn't visit, they see my name and may click next time! So go ahead, show me some love and buy one! :)

Well that's it for now. I'm feeling a bit slow today, I went to a wedding reception last night and I still have a headache! Oh well, it was a good night!

    Speak soon.

Nice site you have here. I would stick with the dot com domain. Search engines seem to like that better and people always assume that it is dot com anyway. I like the pics of the vacation, glad you had a good time.

Thanks for the comment. I agree, I am starting to think I should have stuck with .com. I think from now on when I submit links it will be for the .com domain. Hopefully I can bring the Alexa rank down eventually!

    Hi Bec,

I agree with Dwaune, people may miss your site because they are programmed to think along dot com terms. Dot biz doesn't quite cut it.

On another note, the photos of your grand vacation speak of how much you enjoyed the time there. Phuket is nice isn't it? They have done wonders with the place after the Tsunami. There's another Asian paradise that is better than Phuket, next time you think of a beach as a vacation spot, try Boracay. It's an island in the Philippines.

I will be your 149th subscriber then, just so you can reach your milestone sooner. :-) --Durano, done!

I tried Joomla before, but it was too complicated (when I was trying to design a site for my church)

Wordpress is the easiest for blogs (my opinion though. Glad it works for you)

Thanks Durano, yeah, I've decided to focus more on the .com now rather than the .biz. I do also have the Phillipines as a must go holiday destination on my list! I'll remember Boracay! And thanks for subscribing!

Michael, yes I agree that Joomla can seem a bit complicated when you start. I'm not a programmer, but I think it's very versatile. I do agree though that Wordpress is fine for most bloggers!
