Hi All!
For the last fews days I have been quite focused on building and designing this site. I have a few more sections that I definitely want to add shortly including an 'About Me' section and a section where I can track my goals.
In the meantime, buyrefs have been sending me visitors (that I ordered a few weeks ago) and it's good to have visitors. However, today I have also been commenting on some discussions at blogcatalog.com which I find to be a great blog 'networking site'. There are quite a few discussions on the topics that I am interested in, namely working from home and generating money online.
Since I do have traffic coming in, I should be seeing conversions right? Well, yes and no. In order to really make use of the visitors that are being sent to me, the goal is to generate REPEAT VISITORS! The visitor needs to either remember the name of my domain or bookmark my site!
Repeat visitors are of huge importance to any website!
How do you generate repeat visitors? Well the most important element is to keep the content fresh! If people know that the content of the site will change they are more likely to come again.
How do we know if someone is a repeat visitor or a first time visitor? Well, with my Shinystat tracker it tells me exactly that. It shows me if someone has come once, twice, three times etc.
For December so far, I have had 5019 unique visitors of that 403 have visited the site twice or more. That is 8.03%. Not really ideal! But hey it's my first month trying this all out, so a huge goal for me is to try and increase that number to 20% in exactly a months time on 19th January 2008. (As mentioned before I am adding a goal section, so I will add this to that section).
Another handy thing about shinystat tracking is that it also shows you how long people spend on the site and pages. Since I installed the invisible tracker a few weeks ago I have been keeping my eye on how long people stay.
The great news is that people are staying for 10-15 mins on average on a weekday. For some reason this lowers down to about 6 mins average on a Saturday or Sunday. Fair enough, I guess people are surfing the net at work and not much at home! Funny thing is that people spend the most time on my site each Wednesday!
You definitely need to be able to track what visitors do on your site so that you can improve. Without different campaigns (links) for different advertising, you will have no idea what works and doesn't work.
I am looking to add a section where you can add comments to these posts but for now it's not working! If anyone is a Joomla whiz and can show me, then please contact me!
Until tomorrow....
