Random bits and pieces about the week!
    Written by Bec

    Hi Everyone!

Wow, it's been a busy week this week. I did manage however to update a few things on the site.

Since I don't use Wordpress (I use Joomla) there are a few widgets that come with Wordpress that I really like. I have been wanting to get a Categories section for a while now. I finally did it this week! Joomla has 1000's of extensions to build any kind of site. I often visit the Extensions Directory and look for new and cool things to add to my site. I finally found an extension that allows me to make the categories section. You can see it at the bottom of my page. I called it 'Topics I like to Write About'. I don't know if I should move it to the sidebar though? I'll have to consider that!

It took me a little while to set up because all of my entries were only in one category. So I had to go through and categorize them all, but now it is working fine and I love it!

I want to bring the Work @ Home Club back, but I'm probably going to rename it to something that fits a broader audience. I'll get that up in the next couple of days.

As some of you may know if you have been reading other people's blogs is that Alexa recently changed their ranking system. It didn't really affect me at all, if anything it brought me down lower. Becslife.Biz is currently standing at 166,753 which is excellent. However since I run two versions of this site, both becslife.biz and becslife.com, the latter is only at 975,488. I have been struggling with which domain to promote! When I started I only promoted becslife.biz because I thought it sounded unique. Now I'm not so sure, the .com is very well known. Which do you think I should stick with?

I have to choose one really because otherwise it gets too confusing. I use dnscoop.com to check my pagerank and becslife.biz is a PR3 while becslife.com is a PR4.

On another note, I'm about to break the 150 subscribers mark for my RSS feed which will be nice! I've been sitting on 148 for a few days now. For some reason my feed doesn't have the images I post in it and I'm wondering why. Another thing I will have to investigate.

Also, nobody has bought my money magnet, I guess it's just too much of a pyramid scheme for most people. I still think it's pretty cool though. I'm just glad I didn't by the $100 one! I'm still hoping I'll sell some! According to the widget, heaps of people are selling them! It works with AlertPay which is similar to paypal but has a referral program where you can earn some extra cash. It's a program where you can send or receive money from anyone with an email address.

This week I also changed my commenting system, I think it looks better and is a bit more flexible than my old one. I like that fact that it shows hits and also leaves a commenter's URL. It also has Trackback so I'll be watching to see if that takes off.

Also, why not get in my 'Top Spots'? I've moved it to a prominent place on the site that everyone sees! It's a very good deal, cheap advertising. I've bought a few on other sites that I enjoy. If the site looks good, then I'll usually by a topspot. My stats show that I get quite a few hits from them. Even if someone doesn't visit, they see my name and may click next time! So go ahead, show me some love and buy one! :)

Well that's it for now. I'm feeling a bit slow today, I went to a wedding reception last night and I still have a headache! Oh well, it was a good night!

    Speak soon.

    New Theme!
    Written by Bec
    Thursday, 06 March 2008

    Hi All,

Well you may have noticed some changes around here! I've got a new theme! This one is a bit more flexible than my old one. I've been spending the last couple of days organising it. I'll continue to make changes over the next little while as well until it's perfect!

This week and next week I'll be temping in an office trying to collect a bit of extra cash for the holiday I'm taking in 1.5 weeks! Should be exciting and I'll make sure to take photos and put them up here when I return.

You may have noticed I've had to temporarily disable the members section of this site. Apparently when people were trying to register it would not allow it. I am not sure what is wrong, but I'm looking to fix it. Stay tuned for that!

Also, my goal for the week is to separate all my entries so far into categories so that it is easier to find the information! Unfortunately I don't know how to do that unless I go back through each entry and sort them. Still need to figure out how to display it as well! A bit a of a challenge, I like that!

Having fun helping people creating their websites!
    Written by Bec

    Hi All,

Wow, where does the time go? It's been a busy week for me. Just over a week ago I posted some ads online in my local area saying that I would be available to help people with their web design needs. It's been great, I've had a few replies and I have gotten started on some projects. I love working on websites, so it's a good opportunity for me to constantly upgrade my skills. It's been taking quite a lot of my time working on those projects, but I'm really enjoying it and it is a lot of fun!

On another note, since my Amway/Quixtar experience, I decided that I liked the idea of networking marketing (or multi-level marketing) but not the approach that they were taking. I could not imagine myself meeting people in all sorts of coffee shops to go over a scripted pitch time and time again. I could also not see myself driving over 1 hour each Monday night in order to attend the weekly meeting or pep rally.

It all seemed too much! I needed to find out if there was an online alternative. So I started to search the web for other online network marketing opportunities. I found one that looked interesting and submitted my details. There were no promises of 'Earn $100,000 while you sleep' just the opportunity to work hard and earn a living online. So I submitted my details on the site to watch the free video. Within hours I received a telephone call from the owners confirming my details and setting up an appointment time the next day to go over any questions I may have once I finished watching the online video.

In the end, it ended up being exactly what I was looking for. Something I could do from home, online and on the phone. I signed up and started training straight away. Once I completed the 6 training modules I was ready to go and get my own site.

Since I started with www.ilovethisjob.net in October 2007, I have had a lot of interest from people all over the world and spoken to many people over the phone. I basically only advertise that site through the team Online Business Center advertising co-op and it's been really good. I now spend my time part-time on that, part-time on this blog and part-time on web design. All I can say is it is so much better than typing up letters and setting appointments for my boss (as an Executive Assistant in my former life).

Some of you may have noticed that I recently added the Kontera content links to my site. It's not really that profitable yet, but hopefully with more visitors it will become more useful for everyone. So if something pops out at you, go ahead and click on any words that are double underlined.

Also, as members here, everyone seems to be quiet! Please go and submit some questions in the forum! I seem to be the only one talking there. I'm really interested to hear how other people make money at home and what is most profitable. That's why I started this club, so we could all learn and share ideas.

    Thanks and speak soon!
